The Village Movement
The village concept comes from Beacon Hill, a suburb of Boston in the United States, where a small group of older adults got together in the late 90's to discuss ways to keep living in the area they loved as they got older and needed more support for daily tasks.
They created a community of neighbours who help each other, keep connected and contribute to society. The concept has been so successful that today there are 300 villages around the United States.
As we work to develop the Village Hub in Vic Park, we are mentored by the Waverton Hub, as well as Phinney Neighbourhood Association (PNA) Village, in the Seattle area.
Our Village Hub is part of the Village to Village Network, a national organisation in the US that collaborates to maximise the growth, impact and sustainability of individual villages.
